The Awakening system of Neverness to Everness empowers your characters with strong bonuses. Unlike traditional gachas with linear progression, NTE lets you freely choose which power-up to activate.
How Awakening works
Each character has 6 Awakening Levels available. You pick which one to activate among the 6, in any order. This flexibility changes everything compared to games like Genshin Impact or Honkai where constellations are sequential.
How to get Mind Shards
Mind Shards (character copies) unlock Awakening Levels. Three main sources:
- Pulls on Scarborough Fair Boards (gacha banners) using your Dice
- City Tycoon rewards at certain level milestones (notably Chiz at level 18)
- Buying Character Cards at the Warp Exchange using Warp Pieces
For S-Rank characters, plan several hundred pulls to reach 6 Mind Shards. A-Rank characters are much faster to awaken.
Bonuses per Awakening Level
Bonuses vary per character:
- Cooldown reset on ultimate
- Permanent buff stacks
- Empowered passive talents
- Skill multipliers

The 2 Resonance effects (massive bonuses)
Beyond individual Awakenings, two Resonance tiers unlock even stronger bonuses:
- 3 Awakenings active: unlocks the first Resonance effect
- 6 Awakenings active: unlocks the second Resonance effect
These resonances grant major skill boosts, direct damage multipliers, or game-changing passive effects.
F2P strategy: who to invest in
Mind Shards are rare in F2P. Focus on 1 character at 6 awakenings rather than 3 characters at 2 awakenings each. Why: the second resonance (6 awakenings) often doubles DPS.
Investment priority:
- Your main DPS (Nanally Coluccis, Zero or Chiz depending on your roster)
- Your main support (Sakiri first)
- Free A-Rank characters via City Tycoon (free Mind Shards)
F2P mistakes to avoid
- Spreading Mind Shards across multiple S-Ranks: none will exceed 2-3 awakenings, you miss resonances.
- Activating an awakening without reading it: some awakenings are conditional (e.g., active only against bosses). Read before activating.
- Ignoring A-Ranks: Mint, Daffodil, Edgar can be maxed to 6 awakenings in a few weeks of standard pulls.
